Burlington police say racing car flipped over, slid for 3 blocks

BURLINGTON, Wash. — Burlington police officers said racing caused a car to flip onto its roof and then slide for three blocks Thursday night.

Police were called about two cars racing on South Burlington Boulevard at speeds of more than 100 mph.

The driver of one car had turned off its headlights as it swerved through traffic. As a result, the driver didn’t see there was a raised median in the center of the road at the railroad tracks.

“The vehicle stuck this median with such velocity that it flipped and did not come to a stop for 3 blocks!” the police department wrote on its Facebook page.

The two 18-year-olds who were in the car were not hurt.

“Luckily, no innocent bystanders were injured due to these drivers’ blatant disregard for the public’s safety,” Burlington police posted.

The other car that was seen racing was not found.
